In just a few years creating apps will be as easy as prompting ChatGPT, and by then it will be too late.

There are currently 10 million Software Engineers in the US right now. Every year, the Software Industry adds 1 trillion dollars to the US economy.

I believe that in 10 years there will be 100 million Software Composers who add $10T to the economy. The ones who will gain the most, will start now.

Those "engineers" won't look like engineers. They'll be creating software but not writing coding. They'll look like you.

Why should you believe me? I was the 7th employee and a Senior Software Engineer at Bluesky, and helped grow from 0 to many millions of users in less than a year. I’ve also raised millions of dollars for my own tech companies. I also built a site in high school that got 30 million hits a month, dropped of Duke University at 19 where I was studying CS, and have been coding for 10 years.

But, most importantly, I hate writing code. Manually writing code is cumbersome, slow, and boring. It’s a thing of the past. In fact, for the past 3 months, AI has written 99% of the code for me.

You can be one of Software Composers who grabs this $10T opportunity by the balls. But, there's a caveat.

In 5 years it’ll be easy, but right now, it's going to be hard. You’ll be overwhelmed, not knowing where to start. You’ll get stuck on little things and confused by everything. You’ll feel daunted by the immense amount you don’t know, and feel like you’re making no progress.

With grit, the determination, and the sheer force of will, you can build any app or web software you can dream of. I'm not joking, ask our own Riley Brown, who did that very thing and launched his dream app, YapThread, today!

Or ask Blake, who made $10M building 3 simple AI-powered consumer apps in the past year. Or ask Arib, who launched a SaaS and grew it to 500K ARR in just a few months. Or take it from me. I used to suck at coding. I failed my first coding class in high school and spent 5 years learning how to code before I could make a simple website. So, I get you.

You can do it. You can become a Senior Software Composer.

But you need to be willing to put in the work. If that sounds like you, read on. The rest of you GTFO.

The first thing you need to understand is that building software is no longer a technical skillset.

What does that mean? It’s simple. Up until a few years ago, the main limitation for creating software was having to learn how to code. These tools are completely changing that:

  • Cursor — The best AI code editor

  • Claude — The best AI model for coding

  • Replit — The easiest way to deploy a website

  • v0 — The most beautiful website designer

With these tools you can use natural language, by typing or talking, to build apps and websites. Gone are the days of ritualistic behavior where programmers manually typed each letter into the computer.

This phenomenon isn’t new. 75 years ago, when computers were first built, code was written in little “punch cards” as 0s and 1s and fed into a machine that could read them.

So, it’s no surprise that coding has evolved to where it has right now. Even someone like me, who has 10+ years of coding experience, and has made multiple apps with millions of users, I use AI to generate 99% of the code I write.

If you’re reading this, you’re early. It’s still really hard to use these AI tools to generate code. Most people are just making silly demos for Twitter. There are a few, like the ones I mentioned, who have leveraged this to make millions of dollars in just a few months. That’s where I come in.

This newsletter and the Software Composer community will help you get started, avoid common pitfalls, provide you with a community of others going through this journey, and teach you the specific skillsets to master the tools you need to be years ahead of the curve.

23 years ago, Marc Andreessen claimed, “Software is eating the world”. I agree with him, the nerds in Silicon Valley definitely “ate” a lot with software, trillions of dollars worth. But the size of the opportunity pie in front of you $10T+, it’s time for you to take a bite.

Are you hungry?
